A man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his female neighbour in an apartment block in Tilburg.

The victim managed to stagger down the stairs of the block and alert another neighbour, who raised the alarm at around 11.30am on Sunday, Brabant police said.

Another emergency call was made at the same time by the woman’s boyfriend in Eindhoven, after she phoned him to say she had been stabbed.

The woman was conscious but badly wounded when police arrived at the block in Enschotsestraat. She was able to tell them she had been attacked by the man living upstairs.

An ambulance took her to hospital where she was treated for multiple stab wounds. No further information about her condition was released.

The man was arrested shortly afterwards on suspicion of attempted murder or manslaughter and taken to the police station for questioning.

In Heerlen a 62-year-old man was arrested early on Sunday morning after the body of a 40-year-old woman was found in a house in Klompstraat.

Officers responded to a call about the house on Saturday evening and found the woman inside. Efforts to resuscitate her were unsuccessful.

Police would not say how the victim died or whether she lived at the address.
