Police unions, justice minister David van Weel and police chief Janny Knol have agreed on an 8.5% pay rise for serving police officers over a period of two years.

Police officers will also receive a one-off bonus of €1,100 in December this year and in 2026. The first rise will take effect on December 1 and wages will go up in stages until July 2027.

Police officers who are in physically demanding jobs and who were born between 1962 and the first quarter of 1965 will get the opportunity to retire early. Provisions have also been included about career paths and paying off study debt.

Police chief Knol said on social media she was “happy” about the result of the negotiations.

“Attention for our people’s income, their sustainable deployability, career perspective, and inclusive working conditions, that is how we remain an attractive and modern employer,” she said on social media. “That is important for our position on the labour market and the future of the force.”

The proposal will be put to the members of the unions shortly for them to vote on.
